Let Your Words Be Few After reading a portion of text aloud, issue a unique challenge to student pairs about capturing on paper the gist of what was read. Have each duo pretend to have $5.00 to spend on writing a summary of 20 words or less. Explain that each word used will cost $0.25. This will force students to edit and revise their summaries to make them informative and concise. When all partners are finished, have each pair share its summary and cost with the class.
